Phodé is celebrating its 30th anniversary and stepping up its expansion in the human health sector
To mark its 30th anniversary, celebrated on 30 September 2026 in Terssac (Tarn), Phodé is taking stock of three decades of expertise in sensory solutions and unveiling its new ambitions. A change in leadership, double-digit growth, industrial investments and new research programmes: the French group intends to continue its international expansion whilst strengthening its activities in human health.
A French company that has become a global player
Founded in 1996 by Daniel Eclache, a veterinary surgeon and entrepreneur, Phodé initially developed its business in animal nutrition before gradually expanding its expertise into nutraceuticals, sports nutrition and the agri-food sector.
Specialising in flavourings and ingredients based on plant-derived active compounds, the group draws on three areas of expertise: aromatics, the processing of plant extracts and the development of specific dosage forms.
Today, Phodé has 112 employees and generates a turnover of 26 million euros. Operating in 42 countries, the group exports more than 70 per cent of its production, whilst continuing to design and manufacture its solutions in the Tarn region.
This international presence is accompanied by sustained growth: following an increase of over 10 per cent in 2025, the company announced growth of more than 15 per cent by the end of August 2026.
A new governance structure to support growth
The year 2026 also marks an important milestone in Phodé’s history.
Last May, following the retirement of its founder Daniel Eclache, Pierre Etienne took over as chairman and chief executive of the group, whilst Turenne Santé increased its stake to become the majority shareholder.
As the founder’s first employee, Pierre Etienne intends to continue developing Phodé whilst maintaining its French industrial roots.
“Our ambition is to become a global leader in sensory solutions for the wellbeing of living beings, whilst maintaining our production in France,” emphasises the CEO.
To support this strategy, the company plans to take possession, in October 2026, of a new 2,300 m² building, located close to its current facilities. This investment is intended to strengthen its logistics capabilities and support its future industrial projects.
Olfaction and neuroscience at the heart of upcoming developments
Innovation is one of the main pillars of the group’s strategy, which has announced a three-year development plan, with new solutions expected each year.
Among the innovations presented in 2026 is AROMIND, a range of functional flavours designed to promote emotional wellbeing, as well as Cristalfeed POP, a new generation of flavours for animal feed.
Phodé also intends to strengthen the scientific evidence base for its solutions, drawing on its collaborations with the CNRS, INSERM and several international universities.
In particular, the company has announced the launch of a new CIFRE PhD thesis dedicated to studying the effects of complex aromatic formulations on human behaviour, using MRI brain imaging.
This programme marks a new stage in the exploration of the interactions between olfactory molecules, the brain and behaviour – a long-standing area of research for Phodé that could open up new prospects in the human health sector.
This scientific focus was also a key theme at the anniversary event on 30 September, which brought together nearly 180 guests for, amongst other things, a lecture by neuroscientist Hirac Gurden (CNRS) on the links between olfaction and learning.
Through these investments and research programmes, Phodé aims to combine its long-standing expertise in sensory solutions with new applications in wellbeing and nutraceuticals.
