Kemin focuses on ‘positive ageing’, from the microbiome to weight management
At SupplySide Global 2026, Kemin Industries is highlighting an approach to healthy ageing centred on three key areas: carotenoids, gut health and satiety. In particular, the group aims to promote new applications for its FloraGLO® lutein, its Gutopia™ platform and its Slendesta® ingredient, against a backdrop of the growing popularity of GLP-1 therapies.
FloraGLO®: lutein beyond eye health
To mark the 30th anniversary of FloraGLO®, Kemin wishes to highlight the expanding range of applications for lutein in the field of healthy ageing.
Historically associated with eye health, lutein is now the subject of research focusing in particular on cognitive function and skin health.
According to Kemin, FloraGLO® is backed by more than 130 human clinical studies. The group also highlights a discrepancy between typical dietary intakes of lutein – estimated at between 1 and 3 mg per day in the general population – and the amounts studied in certain clinical trials.
This trend illustrates the growing interest among ingredient manufacturers in solutions capable of addressing multiple physiological challenges throughout the life course, beyond their initial positioning.
Gutopia™: several complementary approaches to the microbiota
The second focus of Kemin’s presentation was gut health, now considered in terms of its interactions with immunity, metabolism and ageing.
Through its Gutopia™ platform, the group brings together several ingredients based on complementary mechanisms.
Among these is BetaVia™, a postbiotic ingredient based on beta-glucans derived from seaweed, which is positioned for gut and immune health.
ButiShield™, for its part, is based on a butyric acid encapsulation technology and targets digestive comfort.
This strategy reflects a shift in the market for microbiota-targeted ingredients: moving beyond traditional probiotics, manufacturers are developing differentiated solutions incorporating, in particular, postbiotics and metabolites of interest.
Slendesta®: satiety in a market transformed by GLP-1
Kemin also intends to position itself to meet new nutritional needs associated with weight management, against a backdrop of rapid development in GLP-1 receptor agonist-based drug treatments.
The group is promoting Slendesta®, a potato-derived ingredient designed to promote satiety and support appetite control.
According to Kemin, its mechanism of action is based on stimulating a physiological satiety response involving the gut-brain axis and the release of a digestive hormone involved in satiety signals.
The company positions this ingredient as a nutritional solution that can form part of various weight management strategies, particularly as a complement to medical care or as part of a non-pharmacological approach.
However, the specific benefits of combining it with GLP-1 treatments, or of using it after such treatments have been discontinued, require appropriate clinical data and cannot be inferred from the satiety mechanism alone.
A holistic approach to healthy ageing
Through these various solutions, Kemin champions a vision of positive ageing that is not limited to longevity, but encompasses the maintenance of physiological functions and quality of life.
“Positive ageing is about helping people get more out of the years they live, and nutrition has an important role to play,” emphasises Filipa Quintela, Associate Director of Marketing at Kemin Nutrition & Health.
This focus reflects a fundamental trend in the nutraceutical market: the convergence of previously distinct categories – cognitive health, microbiota, metabolism and weight management – around a more holistic approach to healthy ageing.
Kemin will showcase these innovations at SupplySide Global 2026, on stand 6073.
