Superba Boost® d'Aker BioMarine autorisé à alléguer sur la « santé de la peau » au Japon

L’huile de krill Superba Boost® est le premier ingrédient oméga-3 à avoir obtenu l’autorisation d’alléguer sur la « santé de la peau » au Japon. Cette décision s’appuie sur des preuves cliniques d’efficacité et marque une étape réglementaire pour les ingrédients oméga-3 ciblant la beauté de l’intérieur.

Une première reconnaissance des bienfaits des oméga-3 sur la santé de la peau

En décembre 2025, l’huile de krill Superba Boost® est devenue le premier ingrédient oméga-3 autorisé au Japon à porter une allégation fonctionnelle sur la santé cutanée. Cette validation a été accordée dans le cadre du système Foods with Function Claims (FFC), supervisé par l’Agence japonaise des affaires de consommation. Les produits intégrant cet ingrédient peuvent désormais indiquer qu’ils contribuent au maintien de l’hydratation cutanée et au renforcement de la fonction barrière de la peau. « Cette autorisation marque une étape importante pour les marques japonaises en reconnaissant officiellement les bienfaits de Superba Boost® pour la peau tout en rassurant les consommateurs du monde entier  », a déclaré Simon Seward, PDG d’Human Health Ingredients chez Aker BioMarine.

Des résultats cliniques documentés

L’allégation repose notamment sur une étude menée au Japon en 2023, qui a mis en évidence un effet positif de la supplémentation en huile de krill Superba Boost® sur l’hydratation et la barrière cutanées [1]. Ces observations ont été complétées par deux essais publiés en 2024 dans le Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology [2]. Dans ces études, une consommation quotidienne de 1 g à 2 g d’huile de krill Superba Boost® pendant 12 semaines (1 g de Superba Boost® contenait 570 mg/g de phospholipides, 170 mg/g d’EPA et 90 mg/g de DHA) a été associée à une réduction de la perte d’eau transépidermique, à une amélioration de l’hydratation (x2,5 pour 1g par jour et x4 pour 2 g par jour) et de l’élasticité (x5 pour 1g par jour et x7 pour 2 g par jour), comparativement à un placebo. Les bénéfices observés coïncidaient avec une augmentation des concentrations sanguines d’acides gras oméga-3, comparé à un placebo.

Spécificités nutritionnelles de Superba Boost

Superba Boost® se distingue par une composition associant des oméga-3 EPA et DHA sous forme de phospholipides (forme hautement assimilable) à de la choline et de l’astaxanthine, un antioxydant naturellement présent dans le krill. Des travaux précliniques ont déjà montré une augmentation de composés clés comme les céramides, le collagène et l’acide hyaluronique, offrant des pistes mécanistiques à la réduction de la perte d’eau transépidermique.

Aker BioMarine’s Superba Boost® authorised to make ‘skin health’ claims in Japan

Superba Boost® krill oil is the first omega-3 ingredient to be authorised for ‘skin health’ claims in Japan. This decision is based on clinical evidence of efficacy and marks a regulatory milestone for omega-3 ingredients targeting beauty from within.

First recognition of the benefits of omega-3s for skin health

In December 2025, Superba Boost® krill oil became the first omega-3 ingredient authorised in Japan to carry a functional claim on skin health. This validation was granted under the Foods with Function Claims (FFC) system, overseen by the Japanese Consumer Affairs Agency. Products incorporating this ingredient can now claim to help maintain skin hydration and strengthen the skin’s barrier function. ‘This authorisation marks an important milestone for Japanese brands by officially recognising the skin benefits of Superba Boost® while reassuring consumers worldwide,’ said Simon Seward, CEO of Human Health Ingredients at Aker BioMarine.

Documented clinical results

The claim is based in particular on a study conducted in Japan in 2023, which demonstrated a positive effect of Superba Boost® krill oil supplementation on skin hydration and barrier function [1]. These observations were supplemented by two trials published in 2024 in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology [2]. In these studies, daily consumption of 1 g to 2 g of Superba Boost® krill oil for 12 weeks (1 g of Superba Boost® contained 570 mg/g of phospholipids, 170 mg/g of EPA and 90 mg/g of DHA) was associated with a reduction in trans-epidermal water loss, improved hydration (2.5 times for 1 g per day and 4 times for 2 g per day) and elasticity (5 times for 1 g per day and 7 times for 2 g per day) compared to a placebo. The benefits observed coincided with an increase in blood concentrations of omega-3 fatty acids compared to a placebo.

Superba Boost® is distinguished by a composition combining omega-3 EPA and DHA in the form of phospholipids (a highly assimilable form) with choline and astaxanthin, an antioxidant naturally present in krill.
